Ask Regina

Q. We recently had a company underwriter tell us if we use the blanket endorsement CG  20
33 Additional Insured – Owners, Lessees or Contractors – Automatic Status When Required in Construction Agreement with You
that it covers everyone in the contact that is required to be listed as an additional insured.

Is that correct?

A. No, the CG 20 33 only gives additional insured status to the person or organization
which has entered into the contract or agreement with your insured (the signatory), not to a lengthy list of others that are required to have additional insured status in the contract. regina

For others you will need a designated additional insured endorsement like the CG 20 10 which can be used on the same policy as the blanket endorsement.  However, the CG 20 38 Additional Insured – Owners, Lessees or Contractors – Automatic Status for Other Parties When Required in Construction Agreement is also a blanket endorsement and like the CG 20 33 provides automatic additional insured status to the person or organization which has entered into the contract or agreement but it also adds other persons or organizations the named insured is required to add as an additional insured under that contract or agreement.

  1. Regina, is there a general liability form that will give additional insured status for completed operations for other parties when required in construction agreement?
