Ask Regina

Q. Our insured is a roofing company that is going out of business and wants to cancel their commercial general liability policy. If there is a completed operations claim after the policy is cancelled, would the cancelled policy respond to the claim since the work was completed during the policy period?

A. No, the policy that would respond would be the policy in effect when the occurrence happens. If there is no policy in effect then there wouldn’t be any coverage. The insured needs discontinued products/completed operations coverage.
