Ask Regina

Q. Our insured received a letter from NCCI informing the insured that they want toregina verify classification codes on my insured’s workers’ compensation policy by conducting a physical inspection of their business operation. Is this something new?

A. According to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI ), NCCI conducts two types of inspections. One is a classification request by the insured or insurance company to assist in classification disputes, and the second is a classification quality assurance inspection that are random checks to make sure that companies are using correct classifications.

Also, TDI/Division of Workers’ Compensation sends out letters to insureds about setting up an inspection to evaluate the insured’s accident prevention services or safety services of their WC insurance company.  See the TDI website regarding accident prevention services inspections.
